The forecast for this day had been looking rainy all week so we planned to drive into Naniamo to visit our friends The O family. They moved to the island two years ago and it was oh so fun to catch up with them.
When we arrived at their place and got out of the van we spotted a deer at the neighbors house and we just had to stop and watch for a bit. Little did we know we would see dozens before the day was done. (Incase I didn't mention it before the Island was in a mass drought with huge water restrictions so everything was pretty dried up)
We loved their amazing view of Departure Bay ferry terminal. Eating lunch and starring at this out the window was so fun!
The kids didn't remember each other but they hit it off so well. They played hard all day. We seriously barely saw them. Love when kids are just kids and use their imagination (there wasn't a tv or device in this house so these boys knew how to play)
This boy was seriously too cute!
The highlight for the kids was this awesome tree fort in their back yard built into an arbustus tree. Watching them play here reminded me so much of my childhood spent playing in our fort. My kids love the old movie "The Little Rascals" and were so thrilled to be living it.
After lunch we ventured out in the rain so the boys could show us their favorite secret place to play
It was a hit! Not much beats a tire swing in the woods and a place to just let the imagination soar
We then got sucked into the blackberry brambles that lined the street on the way home. The kids stuffed themselves! It was hard to say good bye.
We couldn't have asked for a better visit. AL was asking if we could buy a house next door to our friends and live there forever. (Oh how I wish)
After we got back to Parksville the skies cleared enough to go explore.
WR was full of beans and making everyone laugh.
I wish I could bottle up all the giggles and happy squeals from this evening! It was perfect. I love when you get the opportunity for your kids to realize just how much they love to play together.
These guys lashing a huge pile of drift wood together sure caught our attention. These grown men worked hard all week trying to build a floating platform (apparently they buried that upright log two yrs prior. I kept wondering what their wives though of all their time spent there lol)
We seriously couldn't have asked for a better way to spend a rainy island day than this.
